Land Rover unveils a vision of its future with the world debut of the LRX concept - a bold evolution of Land Rover design that indicates the brand’s progressive shift into new areas of the market, while remaining true to its core values.
The three-door LRX, with its more compact size, lighter weight and sustainability focused technologies, clearly addresses the needs of a changing world.
Although the LRX is compact, clever use of space makes it impressively roomy, and many neat design touches maximise its practicality.
The LRX will use a two litre diesel-electric hybrid motor that will emit 120g/km of CO2 – better than most family cars on the road. Better still, the hybrid drive is not simply there to reduce emissions and fuel consumption;
it will also improve the LRX’s off-road ability by supplying carefully controlled squirts of power to the rear wheels as required to keep it moving through the mud to aid its standard, mechanical four-wheel-drive system.
Considerably smaller than the Freelander, 10mm in fact and a massive 250mm lower, this 'cross-coupé' is nonetheless intended to be a premium-class product, capturing much of the cachet of the Range Rover in a compact package, a baby Range Rover if you like.
